چکیده

This paper presents a sensitivity analysis of filter bank multicarrier (FBMC) systems to carrier frequency offset (CFO) and timing offset. Although the emphasis of the paper is on the class of FBMC systems that are based on offset quadrature amplitude modulation (OQAM), the developed results are found applicable to cosine modulated-based FBMC systems as well. We assume that coarse CFO and timing offset estimations and compensations have already been performed so that the residual CFO and timing offset are small. A simple closed-form approximation to the signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) is derived. This approximation is compared numerically with the exact SIR and confirmed to be accurate for a variety of FBMC systems with different prototype filters. The derived SIR is characterized by a pair of coefficients that are only dependent on the underlying prototype filter, thus, allows the designer to pick from the choices of the prototype filter the one that has minimum sensitivity to CFO and/or timing offset. & 2011 Elsevier B.V. Comparison of General Multi-Carrier Schemes in Two Way Relaying Channels

In this paper multi-carrier transmission schemes applying general waveforms are discussed within two-phase two way relay channels. Here, two users communicate simultaneously on the same resources to an assisting relay. The relay has to cope with the superposition of both users, interferences of the channel and additional practical impairments like frequency and timing offsets. To be more robust...

Synchronization sensitivity of multicarrier systems

In this paper, we give an overview of the sensitivity of a number of multicarrier systems to carrier and clock synchronization errors. A comparison is made between orthogonal frequency division multiplexing/multiple access (OFDM(A)) and two combinations of the orthogonal multicarrier technique and the code-division multiple access (CDMA) technique, i.e., multicarrier CDMA (MC-CDMA), where the s...

Joint Impact of Frequency Synchronization Errors and Intermodulation Distortion on the Performance of Multicarrier DS-CDMA Systems

The performance of multicarrier systems is highly impaired by intercarrier interference (ICI) due to frequency synchronization errors at the receiver and by intermodulation distortion (IMD) introduced by a nonlinear amplifier (NLA) at the transmitter. In this paper, we evaluate the bit-error rate (BER) of multicarrier direct-sequence code-division multiple-access (MC-DS-CDMA) downlink systems s...

Effects of Carrier Frequency Offset, Timing Offset, and Channel Spread Factor on the Performance of Hexagonal Multicarrier Modulation Systems

Hexagonal multicarrier modulation (HMM) system is the technique of choice to overcome the impact of time-frequency dispersive transmission channel. This paper examines the effects of insufficient synchronization (carrier frequency offset, timing offset) on the amplitude and phase of the demodulated symbol by using a projection receiver in hexagonal multicarrier modulation systems. Furthermore, ...

Analyse Performance of Fractional Fourier Transform on Timing and Carrier Frequency Offsets Estimation

This paper deals with the performance of the use of fractional Fourier transform (FRFT) instead of conventional Fourier transform (FFT) in either symbol timing offset (STO) and carrier frequency offset (CFO) estimation. Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing is widely used in many systems due to advantages of theses technique compared with mono-carrier systems. In spite of his advantages, O...
